Herpes Outbreak Prevention
How to Prevent Herpes Outbreaks
You can’t catch genital herpes by sharing a glass, a towel, or sharing bath water. HSV can be passed on skin-to skin contact with the live virus. The risk of transmitting the virus may possibly be reduced if you use condoms, however, condoms do not guarantee safety. However, at all costs, couples should avoid sexual intercourse during an acute episode as the disease is most contagious during a herpes outbreak. Limiting the number of sexual partners will reduce the risk.
If you or your partner has a cold sore or fever blister, it is advisable to avoid oral sex as this can increase your risk of contracting the infection.
U.S. researchers have produced an effective vaccine for genital herpes. The vaccine prevented infection in 74% of women exposed for the first time, but didn’t work at all in men.
In addition to avoiding contact during an acute episode, it is important to maintain healthy immune strength, diet, adequate nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress reduction. Children who are treated with too many antibiotics without replacing probiotics (good bacterial flora) tend to have weakened immune systems. High quality nutritional supplements along with probiotic supplements and moderate exercise will nurture your immune system so that you can fight off diseases such as herpes simplex.
